Outdoor spring portrait session

June 14, 2022 Outdoor session

I am obsessed with flowers and I love taking portraits, so there is no better way to enjoy the best of both worlds than by making the most out of the blooming seasons. Spring is one of the best times for outdoor photography. A perfect backdrop for almost all kinds of shoots - senior portraits, family shoots, branding photo sessions, etc. Fortunately, Bay Area has many beautiful spots and locations.

This spring I got a chance to photograph one of my regular clients, Katie, who is such a fun person. She wanted to have a spring-themed portrait session. Take a peek at some of my favorite images from this Outdoor Spring Portrait session.

The most important thing to consider when planning your outdoor spring photo session is determining what you want your session to look like. When helping my clients decide, I first ask them what they would prefer in their final photos, and what kind of look and feel they want. This helps narrow down the main theme of the session. Let's say, if they want to incorporate flowers in their photos, this information will help me shortlist the right time and location for the desired theme because location is a very important factor when planning for a photo shoot.

For this shoot, the client wanted light and airy photos. So, we kept the palette as muted and pastel as possible. Another important factor to consider while preparing for the shoot is the client's dress, its color as well as fabric, and more importantly, what they feel comfortable wearing. I do give recommendations however I also listen to them and help them pick the outfit, because, at the end of the day the photos should express the subject's true personality and narrate their story.

PRO TIP for the client: Use your photo session to communicate your sense of style!
